Mid-Terms

No matter what happens tonight (and tomorrow) at least the mid-terms will be over. These mid-terms were the most expensive in history--imagine if the money could have gone to some non-partisan project such as infrastructure.

Sigh.

This is the most interesting mid-term election. Or is it just the most hyped? Last year I was glued to reports of Roy Moore's defeat in a special election, but this election is much bigger and more important.

I always vote--oh maybe I missed a local election or two. I feel obligated to Alice and Lucy, Elizabeth and Susan, and others. Voting is a right and a duty.

I fear the political climate in this country. I feel the atmosphere of violence.

I hope voting is enough.

Good Intentions Don't Cut It

In my last post, I complained that I've been unfocused, and I would start by getting up early yesterday.

I didn't anticipate that I would have a horrible night's sleep. I was up a little later than planned because we watched the coverage of the Alabama Senate race--thank you black women of Alabama. Then I just couldn't get to sleep. I was uncomfortable, my pillow didn't feel right, Jeff was snoring, my feet got cold, I had to pee. Ugh.

Needless to say, I wasn't ready to bound out of bed in the morning. I forced myself to get up around 7. I could barely keep my eyes open the first few minutes. I told myself it was foolish to go to the gym when I was so tired. I honestly don't know if that was a reasoned decision or just a cop out.

It was bitterly cold. It would warm up later, but the wind strength would increase. I took Lola to Schenck's Island around 10. Later I went food shopping, did a little cleaning and had my first session for my new ACT class. I even managed to exercise.

At least the day wasn't a complete loss.

Election Eve

This has been a long election season--I guess it's really been four years long. People are already talking about the 2020 Presidential election.

Eight years ago, I was anxious about the election results. McCain seemed to have embraced the devil (I mean the Republican operatives who four years earlier attacked his own family.) Of course faux feminist Sarah Palin was also a fright. In 20008, I'm embarrassed to say, I supported John Edwards. I later voted for Obama.

The stakes are higher tomorrow, but I'm not as anxious. I don't believe enough people will support Trump to make him President. I can't believe it.

I hope I don't face a rude awakening tomorrow.

Our Long National Nightmare is (Almost) Over

I'm paraphrasing Gerald Ford in his inaugural address. But I'm not talking about Watergate and miscellaneous lawbreaking of the Nixon administration. I'm talking about the 2012 Presidential election.

I realize that Presidential campaigns begin immediately after the previous Presidential election. Did hundreds of Republican primaries start early in 2009 or does it just seem that way?

Political commercials have inundated the airwaves--thank you Supreme Court. Jeff started to hit the mute button every time a campaign ad came on TV.

Jeff and I voted this morning--not a big crowd in Norwalk, CT.  CT went for Democrats Obama, Murphy, and Himes (our representative.) No one was surprised that Obama took the state. Murphy's margin over WWE magnate, Linda McMahon, surprised me. Local news pundits suggest that voters resented McMahon's use of her own millions for her campaign.

CNN says it may not be as long a night that they thought: good news for President Obama (and me.)
