Jeff bought a Link GPS smart collar system for Lola last week. It's become my new obsession. Jeff entered Lola's age and weight, and the system recommended 48 minutes of daily activity. Lola has exceeded that for all six days that she wore the collar. Thursday was our lowest activity day with 94 minutes (just two minutes short of double our goal.)
We had a active weekend: 201 minutes on Saturday and 199 on Sunday. On Saturday we walked over to Blue Cactus to pick up lunch, and later we hiked Cranbury Park for an hour-and-a-half. On Sunday we visited Southbury Dog Park and later the Norwalk River Valley Trail. (Just a shout-out to myself--I also went to the gym for 45 minutes on Saturday.)
We've been blessed with a string of very nice days that make it easy to be active outdoors. Tomorrow will be our first challenge. Rain is predicted for much of the afternoon. Lola and I will have to get out early.

Back in Business: PC Edition
Picked up my PC yesterday. The Geek Squad had to reset the motherboard and reconnect the battery. I'm not sure what that means. The "Geek" couldn't explain why my PC needed that since it hadn't been dropped or "moved around a lot".
Jeff had purchased a spare PC when Amazon had Prime Day a few months ago. I've been using that for the past week-and-a-half. That keyboard is much larger than mine and has a number keypad on the right. I was just starting to get used to the configuration. Now I have to relearn my own keyboard. It shouldn't take too long.

Stupid Now
I consider myself a smart person. I also realize that being smart won't stop me from doing stupid things. But I hate when I do stupid and careless things http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kAoAchCVPP4.
Yesterday Jeff and I went out to lunch. I decided to check my email as we were walking from the restaurant to the car. Somehow in the process I managed to erase the entire contents of my in box.
I didn't realize the extent of the problem until we got home. I didn't just erase emails from my phone, I erased them from the server. Neither my internet nor my cell service provider could undo my action and fix the situation.
One of the to-do's was to clean out my emails, copy things I need, delete things I don't. I've done this in bits and pieces but wanted to do a comprehensive sweep. Guess I should have put that higher up on the list. Today I had to send a few emails requesting copies of previous emails. Tomorrow, I guess I'll start reviewing my sent box and see what I can recreate from there.
Painful lesson learned.

Blog Note: Technical Problems
This is a small blog and I rarely get comments. So it's frustrating when I have trouble reading and responding to them. Currently I can only read the comments through the comments menu.
I've tried to open comments from the public blog page on different days--no luck. Jeff has also tried to to read the comments using two different computers. He can't read them nor can he add the comment to a post that already has a comment.
I've listed this problem on a forum and hope it can easily be resolved. But I must say that another blogger has recommended I migrate to another blogging platform. I'll take that under advisement.

Tech Troubles
Thursday morning when I tried to go online, I couldn't. I worked through the onscreen suggestions--the usual turn-off and unplug variety. Then I called my Internet provider and spent about 30 minutes working through an automated help process. Most of that time I was saying, "continue" or "I need more time." My land line (same provider) wasn't working when I first called. My ancient cell phone was dying: I made the call on it, tethered by a charger to outlets while moving from room-to-room to unplug the modem or turn the computer on and off. The next day I had to borrow a friend's cell phone when mine could not store enough battery charge to power on.
These mishaps made me think about how dependent I've become on computer and phone technology. I was one of the last cell-phone adopters. I wasn't comfortable with being always reachable by phone. I hated to see a parade of people walking down the street on their cellphones. Even worse was seeing a similar parade of drivers.
Within days of getting my cellphone, I got stuck in a traffic jam due to construction on I-95. I was relieved that I could call Jeff to let him know why I would be late. I soon got used to that kind of convenience.
I was also slow to get used to writing on the monitor screen. In the olden days, we used to write out things longhand before typing them up. Pen and paper seemed more creative somehow. Now I realize how much easier it is to write directly onto a word document.
Then there's the Internet: research reference, phone directory, repository of records, entertainment center, point of contact.
Sometimes I wonder what it was like to live without electricity. Obviously, electricity is not a necessity; people lived without it for millennia. I romanticized about living in accordance with daily rhythms--working in the daylight, going to bed with the dark, enjoying live concerts and plays instead of listening to CD's and watching TV and movies.
But now...I don't know. I can't romanticize living without the Internet. Barring some catastrophe, I won't have to worry about it.
Back to the cell phone situation. On Sunday, Jeff and I decided enough is enough and ditched our old cell phones for 4G Droids. Now I just have to learn to use them.
