I haven't done one of these for awhile. Here goes.

First, I saw this pink dumpster walking Jace. When did we move to Barbieland?

Here are some recent photos of Jace. It's tough to get a good picture of him. He won't cooperate. 

This is from a Saturday afternoon at the 314 Beer Garden in South Norwalk. It may be blurry, but you can see that he's happy. 

I recently looked through a thumb drive that had photos from one of my old phones. Here's a great photo of Spike from the old Burger Bar.Talk about happy!

Santa and Jace

Years ago, we took Spike to Petsmart for photos with Santa. We have two--one photo is with Jeff because Spike wasn't cooperating. We never tried this with Lola because she was timid with strangers. 

Jace is so outgoing and loves to be petted, so I didn't think there would be any problems. 

Well, I was wrong.

First, Jace wouldn't sit with Santa, so I sat down with them. Jace was still a bit antsy. This is the best picture of Jace. (The less said about me the better.)

For some reason, Petsmart set up the photo area right next to the cats available for adoption. Jace notices the cats.

 

Now, he's in full howl mode.

A few weeks ago, my cousin Deb sent us a few goodies, including a stuffed dog for Jace. I texted her that Jace was playing with it, and she asked for a photo. This was the closest I could get. 

The week of Halloween Jace was dealing with a scratched cornea and needed to wear the dreaded cone for five days. 

Here's a more restful sleep.

Finally, here's Mort a black vulture who's come to live at the New Canaan Nature Center. He has an injured wing and is missing a few toes. He always seems hungry.

When Dylan and Jack are in their yard, we stop to say hello as we pass by on a walk.

As usual, Jack barks and howls at Jace when we pass by his house. I like this photo; it looks like a rainbow is nearby.

Last month, I went to a session of Birds of Prey at the New Canaan Nature Center. Here's a shot of Derrick (head of animal care) with Jasper a barn owl.

I thought the sky over Maple Street looked beautiful on a recent walk.

A Picture Post

Spring has really sprung over the last two weeks. Here are a few photos from my walks with Jace. Our walks have been a pleasure lately. I took more pictures, but they just weren't very good.

 

We had an unusually warm week with temperature flirting with 90 degrees. I took Jace to Sherwood Island three times. It was odd to see many people on the beach in April, even a few in the water. Alas, Sherwood Island is now closed to dogs until October. At least, we still have two weeks to go to Cove Island Park in Stamford. 

Years ago, a house on Stevens Street had an owl figure in its yard. It's long gone, but I've seen owls on other neighborhood properties recently.

Walking on the newest Norwalk portion of the Norwalk River Valley Trail (NRVT) I was impressed with some of the graffiti. 

On the same walk, we saw the sign commemorating the Hill Sisters, Norwalk suffragists. 

Finally, here's a photo from February 28 after a snowstorm. 

I especially liked the use of holly leaves as the eyes: it gave the snowperson a Lamb Chop vibe.  

It's the Easter Beagle!

 

We don't remember where/when we got this. But it was part of a key chain--there's a small hole in Snoopy's head centered in front of his ears. 

It's nice to have a special holiday Snoopy.

A Photo Post with Jace

It's been hard to get good photos of Jace. Here are my best options.

Jace came to us with one toy--a stuffed hedgehog. Jeff later told me that he read on youtube that many other beagles have a hedgehog as a favorite toy. 

Here are two photos of Jace on Thanksgiving Day with a festive collar. Spike and Lola both hated these collars. They also resisted wearing a coat. Jace is fine with both. I wonder if he will tolerate booties.

A Photo Post Featuring Jasper

I've posted photos of the birds at New Canaan Nature Center. But I could never get a photo of Jasper--until recently. He liked to hide in his "house" in his aviary.

Here he's out of the cage to go for a walk. 

This photo marks one of the few times I saw Jasper out of his house. I guess he was hungry that morning.

Jasper is one of the few birds at NCNC that is capable of full flight. He is at NCNC because he imprinted on a human and wouldn't survive in the wild. 

In sad news, Hedwig recently died. She had been living at NCNC for 21 years after her right wing was partially amputated.

Here are some recent photos I've taken. 

First, here's a picture of Dylan. I always enjoy seeing him when I go on neighborhood walks.

 

Two adult swans and a cygnet swim on the Norwalk River at Oyster Shell Park. I haven't been to the park very often in the past three months. This was my first young swan sighting. 

I had these mini panzerottis when we stopped for lunch on our return from Lewes, Delaware.  I had recently been talking about panzerottis with my brother and was happy to see these on the menu.

Here is patriot Lola at the grave of  Revolutionary War Captain Henry Chichester in Historic Pine Island Cemetery. I took this photo in 2016 when Lola had been with us for about 10 weeks. 

We still miss her, but right now I'm glad I don't have to comfort a dog upset about fireworks. 

Waiting for the Snow

I expect it to start snowing any minute now and snow until tomorrow afternoon. Still not sure how much snow we'll get--latest forecast is seven to 10 inches. 

Lately Lola has only been interested in walking at Oyster Shell Park. When I've taken her to other places, she just runs out to poop, and then returns to the car. I don't get it, but for now we'll go to Oyster Shell.

Bonus: we saw a hawk today. It landed in a tree near us and I got three pictures.

Lola looked so sweet resting after one of our hikes, I took this photo.

At Cranbury Park. 

Lola ran up this hill with a disc golf target when a pack of dogs approached: a good defensive position if the dogs weren't friendly; they were. 

For Spike and Lola

Today is Spike's birthday; he would have been 21. Okay, I know that's not a realistic age for a beagle; we were happy that Chinese herbs helped Spike reach 15. Spike joined us when he was one-and-one-third years old. We gave him a good life, and he gave us love, joy, and new dog park friends. Every year around this time, I think a lot about him. I still love Spike and miss him. Here are a few of my favorite pictures of him.

Lola joined us four months after Spike died. She was around five then. She's been with us for over five-and-a-half years. We didn't know her real birthday and picked May 5th because it's Spike's half-way day

Here are some pictures of our sweet Lola. 

Jeff and I have been blessed with two wonderful beagles. For one thing, both Spike and Lola like to sleep in. We never had dogs getting us up at 5 or 6 AM.
